‘Delhi Police assaulted us brutally’: Kerala Minister PC Vishnunath, MPs arrested during protest

New Delhi: Delhi Police have used force against a protest march led by the Congress party outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. Police arrested and removed several key leaders, including MPs and Minister P C Vishnunath from Kerala. Among those held were Minister P C Vishnunath alongside MPs Dean Kuriakose and Kodikunnil Suresh.

Allegations of high-handedness

Congress leaders alleged that officers used physical force to make the arrests. MP Dean Kuriakose accused police personnel of brutally assaulting him inside the police vehicle. Protesters also reported being driven away in police vans without being informed of their destination. Around 10 MPs and several women representatives are currently being held in custody under similar conditions.

Peaceful protest escalates

The Congress party stated that Culture Minister P C Vishnunath was dragged forcefully into a police vehicle, with officers refusing to listen even after being informed that he is a minister. According to the party, the march was conducted peacefully to protest against a police baton charge on a previous CJP demonstration. Chief Minister V D Satheesan was among those who participated in the protest, led by Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, at Jantar Mantar, demonstrators temporarily re-erected their protest marquee after it was dismantled by police, resuming their agitation on site.
