Malappuram: A one-year-old boy died in Kottakkal due to lack of treatment. It is suspected that the death was due to not providing adequate treatment to the child affected by jaundice.

The deceased child, Esen Erhan, was son of Hira Harira and Navas, residents at Pang, Kottakkal. The incident occurred on Friday evening, with reports stating that the child died at home. Meanwhile, the child's relatives have denied this allegation.

The Malappuram DMO has ordered a detailed investigation into the matter. Health department officials visited the family's home and recorded statements. While the child's father, Navas, gave his statement at the Kadampuzha police station, Hira is not in a condition to talk to anyone. Health department officials said that when they ask the remaining relatives at home, they say different things.

Some relatives claimed the child was drinking milk and collapsed suddenly. Others said a doctor had visited the home and later the baby was taken to a private hospital in Kottakkal.

Meanwhile, the health department has confirmed that the baby had jaundice. They are currently investigating whether he received adequate treatment. Health department officials said that the baby's parents are encouraging unscientific medical practices.

Authorities have also received information that the parents had misconceptions on jaundice saying the disease would vanish if the child gets wet in the rain. It is reported that the baby had jaundice for a few days. However, despite worsening of the disease, the parents were not willing to admit the baby to hospital or provide any kind of modern treatment.
