Kerala reports record 211 COVID-19 cases on Friday, 201 recoveries

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 211 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Chief Minister was speaking to the media after the COVID review meeting here. Meanwhile, 201 patients in the state have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.
It is for the first time that Kerala is recording over 200 coronavirus cases in a single day. Meanwhile, the state continued to record over 100 virus cases for the 15th consecutive day. The only relief is that Kerala has recorded over 200 recoveries for the second consecutive day.
Malappuram recorded the highest number with 35 positive cases, followed by Kollam - 23, Alappuzha - 21, Thrissur- 21, Kannur - 18, Ernakulam - 17, Thiruvananthapuram - 17, Palakkad -14, Kottayam - 14, Kozhikode -14, Kasaragod and Pathanamthitaa with 7 cases each, Idukki - 2 and Wayanad 1.
Out of the 201 patients who tested negative, 5 are from Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta - 29, Alappuzha - 2, Kottayam -16, Ernakulam -20, Thrissur - 5, Palakkad -68, Malappuram - 10, Kozhikode - 11, Wayand -10, Kannur -13, Kasaragod - 12.
7,306 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in Kerala. So far, 4,964 people have tested positive for the virus and 2,098 people are undergoing the treatment currently in the state. 1,77,011 people are under observation in the state, out of which 2,894 are in hospitals. 378 people were taken to the hospitals on Friday.
1,71,773 samples have been collected in the state so far out of which, the result of 4,834 samples are awaited. As part of sentinel surveillance, 53,923 samples have been collected from high priority categories. out of them, 51,840 samples tested negative.
As many as 2,53,011 people have been tested as part of routine, sentinel, pooled sentinel, CB NAAT and True Nat testing.
Out of the total 211 people tested positive on Friday, 138 had returned from abroad while 39 returned from other states. 27 people contracted the disease through contact. Six CISF officers and one person from the Air Crew have also tested positive for the virus.
The Chief Minister stated that the virus has reached all the districts in the state. The transmission has occurred in both urban and rural areas. The situation is critical in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam city and Ponnani.
There are currently 130 hotspots in the state, he added.
