Customs to investigate suspended SP Sujith Das for alleged ties with gold smuggling gangs

Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of MLA P V Anvar’s serious allegations, the Customs Department is all set to investigate against former SP of Pathanamthitta Sujith Das. Anvar had accused Sujit Das of having links with gold smuggling gangs. 

Kochi Customs Preventive Unit will conduct investigation and has started collecting preliminary data in this regard.

When Sujit Das was the SP of Malappuram, many gold smugglers were caught. The primary conclusion is that there has been a manipulation in the amount of gold seized during his tenure. Hence, the Customs Preventive Department has decided to check in detail.

It will also look into how the police can seize the gold that comes out of the airport without being caught by the Customs Department. The Department has also decided to re-investigate the gold smuggling cases registered during Sujit Das tenure and to check the weight and quantity of gold confiscated in the first phase of the investigation.
