Veena George orders probe into death of transgender activist Anannyah

Thiruvananthapuram: Health minister Veena George has ordered an immediate inquiry into the death of transgender activist, Anannyah Kumari Alex in a flat at Edapally. The director of health department has been instructed in this regard. Minister also proposed to appoint an expert panel to study the gender reassignment surgery. The Kalamassery police have intiated a probe into the incident.
Anannyah’s friend Diya alleged that a serious error has happened with the reassignment surgery. She also explained that Anannyah was having serious health issues after the surgery. When she approached the doctor requesting another surgery, the doctor said that he would conduct surgery after studying the case once more.
“She was having bleeding for a year after she underwent the surgery in June. She was also mentally distressed after having financial difficulties. She also had requested the doctor to conduct another surgery for her. Anannyah has recorded the statements of the doctor," Daya added.
The transgender organizations will give a complaint to the chief minister in regard to this. Anannyah’s friend and transgender activist Heidi Saadiya stated that her friend’s death was not a suicide.
