Uniform Civil Code: CPM gears up for protests

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM is gearing up for widespread protests against the Central government's move to implement a uniform civil code (UCC) in the country ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
CPM leadership has decided to tread with caution; taking the political scenario of the state into consideration. The party members are watchful of the Muslim League’s attempts to pursue the political situation.
The CPM secretariat has decided to adopt a comprehensive political campaign that will put them at the forefront of the protests against UCC.
CPM managed to gather massive support among the Muslim-Christian communities during the anti-CAA protests. The party leadership aims to repeat the same by launching a massive campaign against UCC.
Meanwhile, the Muslim League is trying to revive its political fortunes in the state by organising protests against the uniform civil code. CPM, wary of the League's political motives, has decided to stay out of the joint protests organised by the League against UCC.
It is known that the Manipur crisis and the attacks on the Christian community across the country will be widely discussed in the CPM state council meeting to be held on Saturday and Sunday.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had vehemently opposed the central government's decision to implement a uniform civil code in the country, earlier this week. It should be noted that Pinarayi’s stance during the anti-CAA protests helped him to revitalise political mileage.
