2 doctors confirmed with COVID; community transmission feared in Edappal

Malappuram: Community transmission of COVID-19 is suspected at Edappal here after five people including doctors of two private hospitals were confirmed with the disease on Saturday. Two of them are doctors and three are nurses. Five other persons were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Edappal the other day.
Minister K T Jaleel who is in-charge of Malappuram district said that all persons who came in contact with the COVID patients in Edappal will be subjected to testing. The concerns of the people will end once their fluid samples are tested. The people from all walks of life should cooperate in order to avoid community transmission of the disease, the minister added.
The carelessness from the part of any person can result in transmission of the disease to many others. Everyone should be careful to avoid this situation. Community transmission is yet to be confirmed. However, two of the doctors are said to have contracted the disease, the minister said.
Ten people in Vattamkulam area in Edappal were infected with COVID-19 within last 24 hours. Two doctors, three nurses, KSRTC conductor, bank employee and a housewife are among this. None of them had any apparent symptoms which is a worrying factor.
Apart from this, two staff of Karipur airport also were confirmed with the disease. The Kottakkal native patient was confirmed with the disease after completing quarantine period and going out of the house. He had come in contact with many people. A total of 47 persons were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Malappuram on Sunday and 246 are under treatment.
