Kerala logs 14,539 new Covid cases on Tuesday; 124 fatalities

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 14,539 new Covid cases on Tuesday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed in a press conference after the daily Covid review meeting. With 124 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 14,810. Test positivity rate was recorded at 10.46.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Malappuram – 2115, Ernakulam - 1624, Kollam – 1404, Thrissur - 1364, Kozhikode - 1359, Palakkad - 1191, Thiruvananthapuram - 977, Kannur - 926, Alappuzha - 871, Kottayam - 826, Kasaragod – 657, Pathanamthitta - 550, Wayanad - 436 and Idukki – 239.

A total of 1,39,049 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 2,46,48,919 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

67 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 13,582 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 828 patients remains unidentified.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Malappuram – 2070, Ernakulam - 1591, Kollam – 1394, Thrissur - 1355, Kozhikode - 1329, Palakkad - 679, Thiruvananthapuram - 898, Kannur - 818, Alappuzha - 850, Kottayam - 774, Kasaragod – 641, Pathanamthitta - 533, Wayanad - 423 and Idukki – 227.

62 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. Among them, 14 were from Kannur, 10 from Kasaragod, 8 from Pathanamthitta, 7 from Wayanad, 5 from Idukki, 4 from Ernakulam, 3 each from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, 2 each from Kottayam and Thrissur and 1 each from Alappuzha, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode.

Meanwhile, 10,331 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 754, Kollam - 830, Pathanamthitta - 382, Alappuzha - 668, Kottayam - 473, Idukki - 276, Ernakulam - 634, Thrissur - 1326, Palakkad - 1056, Malappuram - 1566, Kozhikode - 1176, Wayanad - 239, Kannur - 631 and Kasaragod - 320.

With this, the number of active cases touched 1,15,174 in the state. 29,57,201 people recovered from the disease so far.

3,82,260 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 3,57,751 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 24,509 people are in hospitals. 1785 people were taken to hospitals on Tuesday.

There are 86 local bodies with TPR below 5; 382 local bodies with TPR between 5-10, 370 local bodies with TPR between 10-15 and 196 local bodies with TPR above 15.
