Court grants bail to Rahul Mamkootathil in YC protest-related case

Thiruvananthapuram: A Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here has granted bail to Youth Congress State President Rahul Mamkootathil on Wednesday in relation to a case registered over the protest march to the secretariat last month.  

Mamkootathil was granted bail in a case registered by the Cantonment Police alleging rioting, unlawful assembly and vandalising public property. 

Last day, the court also granted bail to him in two of the three cases registered against him in connection to the Youth Congress protest march held on December 22. 

He received bail nine days after the police arrested him from his residence. The bail condition requires him to deposit a bond of Rs 50,000 or two sureties and Rs 1360 for vandalising public property. Furthermore, he should also appear before the police officials every Monday for the next six weeks. 

Meanwhile, the court will also consider Mamkootathil's bail petition in connection with a case registered by Museum Police. 

The Youth Congress march, organised last month, aimed to draw attention to the alleged attacks on its workers by police and activists of the youth outfit of the ruling CPM during the state government's Nava Kerala Sadas programme, led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
