‘Prana’ project for oxygen supply directly to hospital beds

Thrissur: At a time when thousands are dying across the country from lack of oxygen, the project implemented at the medical college hospital here supplies oxygen directly to hospital beds through pipelines. The first of a kind project was implemented in association with public participation.

Oxygen is supplied to 500 beds in 6 wards. The project was designed by the doctors of the hospital. The expense for supplying oxygen to one bed is around Rs 12,000. Covid recovered persons, hospital employees, doctors, business personalities and public representatives helped in materializing the project.

Suresh Gopi MP sponsored oxygen supply to one whole ward. The project took eight months to be fully implemented.

During the earlier days of Covid pandemic, oxygen cylinders were used for patients. With Prana, the oxygen supply to Covid ward has been speeded up. At present oxygen is bought and supplied through the pipeline. The oxygen production plant will be completed within a week. Following this, oxygen will be supplied through the pipeline.

The oxygen plant was constructed with an expense of Rs 1.5 crore provided by the central government. 250 units of oxygen can be produced daily.

Prana will be of immense help when large number of Covid patients are to be admitted.
