Valanchery incident: Police book 'foul-mouthed' YouTuber Thoppi

Malappuram: A police case has been registered against the controversial YouTuber 'Thoppi' following an inaugural program in Valanchery. The Valanchery police took action based on charges of traffic obstruction and the use of obscene language. Additionally, the police have registered a case against the owner of 'Pepe Street Fashion,' the shop that organised the event.
Police action is based on a complaint filed by activist and Valanchery resident Saifuddin. He stated that the national highway was blocked for several hours, resulting in traffic congestion, as well as loud singing. The police initiated an official FIR on Thursday in response to the complaint.
The shop opening in Valanchery, along with the participation of 'Thoppi' and his song, became a subject of intense discussion on social media a few days ago. Numerous teenagers, including school students, had flocked to the event to meet the YouTuber.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) is advocating for stricter standards in social media content. They are calling for legal action against creators of videos containing misogyny, profanity, and slurs, with specific reference to YouTuber 'Thoppi.' The DYFI emphasises the influence of such content on the younger generation, including children, who often lack adequate media education.
The DYFI further asserts that inviting individuals known for their offensive content, like 'Thoppi,' to inaugural programs raises concerns about the messages being conveyed to the public.
