Mathrubhumi 'Snehabhumi': CM inaugurates construction of Puthumala rehabilitation project

Kalpetta: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the Puthumala rehabilitation project via video conferencing. 56 houses will be constructed on seven acres of land at Poothakolli in Meppadi village, which was bought by Mathrubhumi Charitable Trust and handed over to rehabilitate the flood victims.
While inaugurating the project, Pinarayi Vijayan said that Mathrubhumi’s work is a role model for others. extending wishes to Mathrubhumi from his heart, the CM added that this project was made possible by the joint efforts of a lot of people.
Rebuild Kerala initiative-Puthumala Rehabilitation project will be known as ‘Harsham’. The owners of 52 plots in the projects have been selected through a lotto. The houses were designed by the Kozhikode chapter of the Architect Association.
State government will give Rs 4 lakh each for the construction of the houses. Various organisations and firms will also cooperate in constructing the houses. The project will also have a health center, community center and drinking water facilities.
The function was presided by Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan. Mathrubhumi Managing Director M V Shreyams Kumar was the chief guest. Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi's letter was read out during the function. District panchayat president K B Naseema, Meppadi village panchayat president K K Sahad were also present. District Collector Adeela Abdullah presented the report.
The devastating landslide occurred in Puthumala on August 8 last year. 62 families lost their houses completely while several others lost their houses partially. 56 of these families will be provided with new houses in the land given by Mathrubhumi Charitable Trust.
Some of the landslide victims had become part of the government project to buy new land and houses by accepting a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh.
