Congress initiates discussion on seat allotment; more prominence for women, youth

New Delhi: Congress party has initiated discussions regarding seat allotment ahead of the Assembly polls in the state. The sitting MPs of the party will not contest in the election this year. However, the MPs can propose 2 candidates to contest from the respective constituency.
Candidates who enjoy strong public support should be selected as candidates for the election. The High Command has instructed the party leadership to give more representation to youngsters and women. Leaders who have lost in two or more elections and those who have won 4 or more elections will not be fielded in the Assembly election. However, leaders like Oommen Chandy will be exempted from this.
The party leadership has been instructed to take community equations into consideration while deciding on candidates. Rahul Gandhi will convene a special meeting with Kerala MPs when he reaches the state for budget review meeting.
