Cobra run over by car undergoes surgery in Kollam

Kollam: A cobra successfully underwent a surgery at the district veterinary centre. The reptile was run over by a car on the road near Karicode TKM college. Despite getting injured, the snake remained fierce posing a threat to the locals. Eventually, officials of the special protection unit had to arrive at the spot. A team of forest protection force lead by assistant conservator Anwar tactfully captured the cobra. In the accident, the intestines of the snake had come out.

Upon reaching the hospital, the reptile was immediately shifted to the surgery department. It was administered anaesthesia and medicines to stop the bleeding. In an hour-long surgery, the intestine was put back in place and the wounds were stitched. Antibiotics have been administered and the cobra will have to undergo treatment for five more days.

The team of surgeons comprising Dr Sanjay Kumar, Dr S Kiran Babu and Ajith Murali performed the surgery under the supervision of the hospital head Dr D Shine Kumar. Forest officials informed that the snake will be set out in the Kulathupuzha forest region after recovering from the injuries.
