Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on April 8 will inaugurate the first four residential complexes built under the government’s prestigious LIFE Mission project for the rehabilitation of landless, homeless people.

The inauguration is at 10.30 am at the building at Kadambur in Kannur district. The CM will handover the keys to the Kadambur housing complex beneficiaries.

Local self-government minister MB Rajesh will preside over the function. Ministers K Krishnankutty, Ahmed Devarkovil and others will also participate.

Meanwhile, ministers KN Balagopal, VN Vasavan and Roshy Augustine will hand over the keys to Punalur (Kollam), Vijayapuram (Kottayam) and Karimannoor (Idukki) housing complexes at venues arranged near the respective buildings.

With this, the rehabilitation of 174 families will be ensured. LIFE Mission is currently building 29 housing complexes across the state. Apart from this, it has been decided to construct new housing complexes in the panchayats of Nellikuzhi in Ernakulam district and Poovachal in Thiruvananthapuram district. Rs 29.53 crore has been spent on all four projects.

Each unit includes a hall, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a toilet, a bathroom and a balcony. In addition to this, a common corridor, staircase, fire fighting systems, electricity, tube well for drinking water, water tank, solar lights, system for solid waste management, rainwater tank, generator and transformer are also installed, stated a government press release. The buildings are constructed using prefabrication technology.

So far 3,39,822 beneficiaries have completed house construction as part of the LIFE Mission.
