Chingoli: A long-standing pathway crisis at Sudha’s residence in Chingoli, Alappuzha, has been resolved after the intervention of MLA Ramesh Chennithala, ending years of hardship for her and son Sachu, who were left without a proper road to their home.

The issue gained wider attention after a Mathrubhumi report highlighted the family’s struggle to even step out of their house due to blocked access routes. Following this, local leaders stepped in and facilitated a land solution to restore connectivity.

The land, owned by Congress leader Adv. V. Shukkur and his relatives, was formally handed over on Sunday. A 30-metre-long and 1.5-metre-wide pathway has now been created, providing direct access to the residence.

Officials and political representatives were present along with Sudha when the boundary was marked and stones were installed to form the newly created route.

Earlier, nearby resident Sunil Kumar of Krishnabhavan had agreed to remove part of a compound wall to help open access. Later, Shukkur intervened and secured consent from his relatives to extend the land contribution, completing the pathway arrangement.

Sudha’s home in Ward 13 of Chingoli grama panchayat had remained isolated for years after surrounding properties were fenced off, cutting off the original pathway. Despite repeated complaints to authorities since 2006, no permanent solution had been implemented until now.

The family, belonging to a Scheduled Caste community, had been forced to squeeze through narrow gaps in fencing just to exit their home. Essential services like postal delivery, electricity meter reading, and even gas cylinder delivery were also affected due to the lack of access.

The land for the house was originally allotted by the panchayat in 2003, but the official access route was later disputed and blocked following legal and land ownership complications.
