Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader A V Gopinath resigned from the party. Though he quit the primary membership of the party, he stated that he has no plans to join any other party soon. He made it clear that further developments will be informed later.

While addressing the media to announce his resignation, Gopinath recollected that he has been active in Congress since the age of 15. He claimed that he worked with his fellow party members to make his panchayat a stronghold of Congress and succeeded in making the party influential in all areas of Palakkad district.

The new trends in the party has been hurting me for some years. If the party workers think that the Congress and its leaders are incapable of improving further, we cannot blame them. Even I started thinking that way. I have been thinking of quitting the party at some point as I lost hope. From this moment, I am not part of the Congress, Gopinath declared.

Gopinath severely criticized former MLA Anil Akkara and praised Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Gopinath had stated that Pinarayi Vijayan is a leader of the great Communist party and that he is proud to be even a domestic help in the CM’s residence.

It is noteworthy that Gopinath praised the chief minister when there are rumours about him joining the CPM. He was annoyed over the recent DCC president list released by the Congress.

Meanwhile, Gopinath criticized Anil Akkara in a very harsh manner. He alleged that Anil Akkara is mentally not sound. Earlier, Anil Akkara had criticized Gopinath even after he was given posts like DCC president and KPCC office-bearer.
