Chennai: Considering the rise in travel demand during the Sabarimala pilgrimage season, additional flights have been introduced between Chennai and Kochi. The number of daily flights to Kochi during this period has increased to an average of eight, compared to the usual five services.

The airlines operating these routes include IndiGo, Air India Express and SpiceJet. IndiGo operates 40 weekly flights, while SpiceJet runs 20 flights a week on this route. Also, three flights previously connecting Bengaluru and Chennai have been extended to Kochi. There is also an extra flight departing from Chennai early on Sunday mornings.

Last year, during the Mandalam season, there were seven daily flights from Chennai to Kochi. To accommodate pilgrims, airlines have permitted the ‘Irumudi Kettu’ to be carried as hand luggage. This provision will remain in effect until January 25.
