Kerala leads in cattle slaughter and meat production in country

The Union Government’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation recently released the EnviStats report, shedding light on the number of animals slaughtered and the quantity of meat production in the country.
According to the report, Kerala slaughtered the highest number of cattle at 1,434.74 thousand, followed by Assam at 57.15 thousand, Manipur at 105.70 thousand, Meghalaya at 230.14 thousand, and Mizoram at 34.18 thousand.
In buffalo slaughter, Maharashtra leads with 58.61 thousand, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 3,925.23 thousand, Andhra Pradesh with 1,261.91 thousand, Bihar with 1,459.51 thousand, and Telangana with 1,159.54 thousand.
Andhra Pradesh slaughtered the most sheep at 16,538.45 thousand, followed by Telangana with 21,534.05 thousand, Karnataka with 7,739.11 thousand, Tamil Nadu with 5,212.72 thousand, and Bihar with 157.46 thousand.
For goats, Andhra Pradesh leads with 4,743.23 thousand slaughtered, followed by Telangana with 5,771.22 thousand, Tamil Nadu with 6,083.59 thousand, West Bengal with 3,318.53 thousand, and Rajasthan with 6,605.05 thousand.
Assam tops pig slaughter with 2,320.84 thousand, followed by Nagaland with 1,508.07 thousand, Arunachal Pradesh with 264.80 thousand, Jharkhand with 640.73 thousand, and Tripura with 236.41 thousand.
Andhra Pradesh slaughtered the most poultry at 334,362.39 thousand, followed by Tamil Nadu with 3,025.50 thousand, Maharashtra with 3,100.66 thousand, West Bengal with 245,330.91 thousand, and Haryana with 413,616.83 thousand.
Meat production
In meat production, Kerala leads in cattle meat production with 1,434.74 thousand tonnes, followed by Assam with 57.15 thousand tonnes, Manipur with 105.70 thousand tonnes, Meghalaya with 230.14 thousand tonnes, and Mizoram with 34.18 thousand tonnes.
Maharashtra is the top producer of buffalo meat at 691.66 thousand tonnes, while Uttar Pradesh follows with 588.78 thousand tonnes, Andhra Pradesh with 141.04 thousand tonnes, Bihar with 147.49 thousand tonnes, and Haryana with 7.33 thousand tonnes.
In sheep meat production, Telangana leads with 129.92 thousand tonnes, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 241.19 thousand tonnes, Karnataka with 116.71 thousand tonnes, Rajasthan with 49.76 thousand tonnes, and Maharashtra with 79.66 thousand tonnes.
West Bengal produces the most goat meat at 316.29 thousand tonnes, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 64.49 thousand tonnes, Andhra Pradesh with 63.77 thousand tonnes, Rajasthan with 85.58 thousand tonnes, and Tamil Nadu with 66.87 thousand tonnes.
Assam leads in pig meat production with 48.69 thousand tonnes, followed by Meghalaya with 19.14 thousand tonnes, Jharkhand with 18.27 thousand tonnes, Nagaland with 17.45 thousand tonnes, and Manipur with 5.63 thousand tonnes.
Andhra Pradesh is the top producer of poultry meat with 506.44 thousand tonnes, followed by Tamil Nadu with 480.13 thousand tonnes, Maharashtra with 691.66 thousand tonnes, Haryana with 563.21 thousand tonnes, and West Bengal with 581.34 thousand tonnes.
