Kozhikode: Rajya Sabha MP and CPM Lok Sabha Kozhikode constituency candidate Elamaram Kareem said that the Modi government is trying to win votes through communal division. He alleged that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is being used as a tool to prompt severe communalism during the elections.

“This election, they are using the communal trump card. The process of preparing the citizenship register is very risky. There have been grave irregularities when this was done in Assam. This is an attempt to create social conflict and bring about a feeling of insecurity in the country,” he said.

The CAA has now become a topic of political polarisation. The Left government has taken a stance that the citizenship register will not be implemented in Kerala. The politburo has called for a protest against this, Elamaram Kareem added.
