Veteran CPI leader C A Kurian, 88, passes away

He was elected as MLA from Peermede thrice and was also deputy speaker. His social activities revolved around Munnar and the plantation regions.

Born in 1933, Kurian was first elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1977 and later in 1980 and 1996. He was deputy speaker in 1996.

Kurian is a native of Puthupally in Kottayam. He has served as CPI state executive member, AITUC state secretary, All India Plantation Workers Federation general secretary among others.
