Thiruvananthapuram: In a major development, the Thiruvananthapuram Special Vigilance Court on Thursday rejected the clean chit previously granted to ADGP M R Ajith Kumar in the disproportionate assets case by the Vigilance Department.

The court’s decision comes after reviewing the case diary, investigation reports and hearing arguments from the complainant, who highlighted major lapses in the investigation, including the failure to probe Ajith Kumar’s asset details.

The clean chit, earlier accepted by the government based on the vigilance director’s report stating no disproportionate wealth was found, has now been invalidated by the court. The vigilance probe was initiated following allegations raised by P V Anvar.

Ajith Kumar, formerly chief of the armed police battalion, was recently appointed as Excise Commissioner after a controversial tenure in the police department. His actions, including traveling to Sabarimala Sannidhanam in a tractor against a High Court order, led to strong criticism and his subsequent transfer.

This ruling marks a setback for Ajith Kumar, as the court calls for a fresh look into the investigation and questions the earlier exoneration. The case is expected to witness further developments in the coming days.
