Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has appointed Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty as the new chairman of the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy, officials confirmed on Friday. Actress and general secretary of the actors’ association ‘AMMA’, Kuku Parameswaran, has been appointed as the vice-chairperson, while C. Ajoy will serve as the secretary.

Pookutty, who won the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, is set to lead the state’s premier film body, which promotes cinema and supports film-related initiatives across Kerala.

The academy’s general council includes Santhosh Keezhattoor, Nikhila Vimal, B Rakesh, Sudheer Karamana, Reji M Damodaran, Sithara Krishnakumar, Minhaj Meder, Sohan Seenulal, G S Vijayan, Shyam Pushkaran, Amal Neerad, Saju Navodaya, N Arun, Poojappura Radhakrishnan, U Sree Ganesh.

Earlier, actor Premkumar, who served as vice-chairperson, took over the chairman’s responsibilities following director Ranjith’s resignation.

Following the demise of Shaji N Karun, director K Madhu had been appointed chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation.
