CPM backtracks on PM SHRI, bows to CPI pressure, to cancel MoU

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM and the state government have decided to yield to the CPI’s demand to annul the PM SHRI MoU. Moves have been initiated to temporarily suspend the agreement. This decision is part of a final attempt to accommodate the CPI. The state government will write to the Centre seeking a relaxation in the project, and the project will remain suspended until a response is received from the Centre.
The Chief Minister will call CPI leaders to provide explanations regarding this matter. After that, CPI Ministers are expected to attend the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday. It is reported that CPM general secretary M A Baby has already spoken to CPI general secretary D Raja about the situation.
The suggestion put forward by Baby is to temporarily suspend the implementation of the project.
Leadership meetings of both parties are currently underway in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Cabinet meeting, which usually convenes at 10 am, had been postponed to 3.30 pm on Wednesday. This change is believed to be part of the ongoing reconciliation efforts.
