11-year-old Idukki boy mistakes snakebite for minor injury, dies two days later

Vandiperiyar: In a tragic incident, a 11-year-old boy, who initially believed he sustained a minor leg injury, died from snakebite poisoning two days later. The boy Surya was a 6th standard student and the youngest son of late Ayyappan and late Geetha.
The incident came to light when a post-mortem examination revealed that the boy had been bitten by a snake, a fact that had gone unnoticed until then.
Two days prior to his death, Surya had injured his leg while playing. However, he did not inform anyone about the injury, believing it to be something trivial. By Sunday, his condition began to deteriorate, and his family sought medical attention.
Surya was initially taken to the Vandiperiyar Community Health Centre, but as his condition worsened, he was rushed to Government Theni Medical College. Despite medical attention, Surya could not be saved.
Surya had already faced hardship, having lost both his parents to cancer. He was under the care of his elder sister Aishwarya and her husband. Following the post-mortem at Theni Medical College on Monday, Surya's body was handed over to his relatives.
