Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will soon provide passengers with bottled drinking water at rates lower than market prices and introduce an online food delivery system on buses, Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar announced on Wednesday.

The minister said the initiative would benefit both passengers and KSRTC employees. Under the new system, conductors will receive an incentive of Rs 2 and drivers Rs 1 for every bottle of water sold. The scheme is expected to be rolled out shortly. Special holders will also be installed inside buses to store drinking water for drivers, he added.

KSRTC has also granted permission to a startup company to manage food distribution. Passengers will be able to place food orders online, which will be delivered to their seats when the bus reaches designated stations.

In addition, the minister said KSRTC will introduce a dedicated waste management system to ensure the timely removal of garbage, as part of efforts to improve passenger comfort and cleanliness.
