Malappuram: Industrialist Bobby Chemmanur, who waged a successful campaign to collect ‘blood money’ for the release of AP Abdul Rahim of Kodampuzha, Kozhikode district, has said that, what prompted him to carry out the campaign is the fact that Rahim is innocent. ‘It is not because Rahim is a Muslim, but he is innocent’, said Bobby to reporters at Malappuram.

The campaign to collect blood money for the release of Rahim, who is in the jail in Saudi Arabia sentenced for death, had attracted the attention of the media and the general public alike. ‘I took  up this task not because he is a muslim, but a human being’, Bobby said.

'Tomorrow , I would do the same for a Hindu or Christian, if such a situation comes up before me. I have got support from America and Europe. If we stand up for something genuine, people would back you up. It shows the sense of solidarity of Keralites’, said Bobby. “I have spoken to film director Blessy regarding the filming of the life of Abdul Rahim. He  reacted positively’, said Bobby.

‘Now, investigations are on to know whether Nimishapriya, who is in the jail in Sana’a in Yemen, sentenced to death, in connection with the murder of a Yemen citizen, is innocent or not. Initiatives like this should not become a system to bail out murderers. If Nimishapriya is innocent, we could try to help her out of  jail. I am ready to discuss this matter with other organisations as well’, Bobby Chemmanur said.
