Thiruvananthapuram: BJP MLA O Rajagopal has supported the resolution against Speaker Sreeramakrishnan. He said in the Assembly that it is sad the Speaker colluded with anti- nationals and acted on their behalf. O Rajagopal had created news by voting in favour of P Sreeramakrishnan during the speaker election held in 2016.

No-trust motions are sometimes presented in the Assembly for political reasons. Discussions are also held regarding the same. However, the resolution presented on Thursday is different from all those. It is regrettable that the person holding the Speaker’s office has been accused in a smuggling case. The Speaker should have been the role model of the 140 MLAs in the Assembly, Rajagopal stated.

Public servants are often subjected to many kinds of pressures and influences. A public servant can be a role model only if they manage to overcome these influences and pressures, he added.

VS Sunil Kumar voiced protest against O Rajagoapal’s statement that the Speaker is an accused in the gold smuggling case. He requested the speaker to remove that remark.
