Kottayam: Kerala’s own ‘Uru’ (yacht made of wood and coir) is all set to be a part of FIFA World Cup 2022. Beypore’s traditional wooden dhow, which will be part of the World Cup’s official prizes, is all set to represent Kerala at the mega-sporting event in Qatar.

The miniatures of Uru will be supplied by Black Arrow Gifts and Novelties Company, a Libyan company based in Qatar. The construction of the Uru models for the World Cup was monitored by the company's sourcing consultant Binu Kottayil Thirumadathil, a native of Kozhikode. The models were made by Abhilash Chacko, a native of Kottayam.

A total of 1,000 Uru miniatures imprinted with FIFA's official hologram were taken from Kozhikode to Qatar for sale. One Uru costs around Rs 15,000.

A total of 20 artists have taken efforts for 90 days to finish the work of these wonderful showpieces.

All the raw materials including teak wood for construction and other items for packing were collected from Kozhikode. The construction was carried out completely abiding by the FIFA norms, said the artist.
