Literary critic Balachandran Vadakkedath passes away at 69

Triprayar: Literary critic, writer and orator Balachandran Vadakkedath (69) passed away on Saturday morning at a private hospital in Thrissur. 

Balachandran has worked as Secretary of Kerala Kalamandalam and Vice President of Sahitya Akademi. He was an active member of the General Council of Sahitya Akademi and currently held the position of Vice President of Samastha Kerala Sahitya Parishad. Additionally, he was the Chairman of 'Akam' Samskarika Vedi and one of the founding members of Anganam Samskarika Vedi. He also served as the President of Employees' Concord for the Nattika constituency and was the Thrissur Taluk Secretary of the N G O Association.

He received numerous accolades for his contributions to literature, including the A. R. Raja Raja Varma Award, Kuttipuzha Award, Fr. Abraham Vadakkel Award, Kavyamandalam Award, Gurdarshan Award, Srisailam Sahitya Award, C.P. Menon Award and the Kalamandalam Mukundaraja Smrithi Puraskaram.

In addition to his literary works, Balachandran served as an officer in the health department.

His body will be taken to the Sahitya Akademi at 11:30 am for public homage. The funeral will be held on Sunday morning at 10:00 am on the premises of his ancestral home near SN Trust Higher Secondary School in Nattika.
