Thiruvananthapuram: Acclaimed Indian author Arundhati Roy has bagged the 2025 Mathrubhumi Book of the Year for her latest work, Mother Mary Comes to Me. The accolade carries a cash prize of ₹2 lakh and a memento.

Mother Mary Comes to Me delves into Roy’s complex relationship with her mother, Mary Roy. The book reflects on family, memory, and personal history, intertwining intimate and political narratives through finely crafted literary prose.

Mary Roy, a Syrian Christian woman, was a pioneering social activist and educationist who fought a long and arduous legal battle to secure equal inheritance rights for women in her community.

Arundhati Roy is widely recognised as a prominent figure in Indian English literature. Her debut novel, The God of Small Things, won the Booker Prize, cementing her status as a literary luminary.
