Kannur girl’s artwork to be featured on Children’s Day stamp

Kannur: A unique artwork by Tanmaya V, a Class 8 student at Kannadiparamba Government Higher Secondary School in Kannur, has been chosen as the face of this year’s Children’s Day stamp. The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare will officially unveil the 2024 stamp on November 14, Children’s Day, during a grand state-level function in Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, along with ministers Veena George and V. Sivankutty, will attend the launch, marking a proud moment for the young artist.

The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare has announced that earnings from the sale of the stamp will support charitable programmes, specifically for children in need, including orphans. This initiative, according to the Council, aims to inspire empathy and cooperation among students and the public towards society.

Selection process
Tanmaya’s journey to this honour began with a state drawing competition themed ‘Child-Friendly Kerala,’ organised by the Council for school students. Competing against 339 other young artists, she claimed the top spot with her imaginative and heartfelt portrayal of Kerala as a child-friendly state. The decision was made by Nemom Pushparaj, the former chairman of the Kerala Lalithakala Academy. Describing her work as “imaginative, meaningful, simple, and visually pleasing,” Pushparaj praised the young artist’s ability to convey powerful messages through her art.
