Sabarimala: A factory to manufacture aravana tins will be opened at Nilakkal by the Devaswom Board. A building constructed by the Tata Group there will be used for the purpose. It is also planned to manufacture paper tins at the new factory.

As per the Board authorities, talks in this regard are in the final stage.  Earlier, a 10-acre land, owned by the Board at Thelliyoor, was considered for the construction of the factory. However, the plan was dropped considering the huge expenses it would cause as there was no building on the land.  The same issue was raised in the Board meeting following which it was decided to hire a vacant building for the factory.

The authorities also informed that help from sponsors will be taken to purchase machinery for the factory. The Public Works Department is preparing a detailed project report which will be submitted to the Board within a month.

With the realisation of the factory, the plastic tins will be replaced by the new paper tins in all the temples coming under the Devaswom Board. The Board has earmarked Rs 10 crore for the factory in its budget.

A special team, led by Devaswom Board president P S Prashanth, had visited some container factories in Coimbatore to see and learn the technology related to aravana container factory.
