Amrit Bharat Scheme: Seven Kerala railway stations upgraded, open to passengers

Thiruvananthapuram: Seven railway stations in Kerala upgraded under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme have been made ready for passengers, with enhanced infrastructure and modern amenities aimed at improving travel experience.

The stations — Chalakudy, Changanassery, Chirayinkeezhu, Kuttippuram, Shoranur Junction, Vadakara and Wadakkanchery — have been redeveloped with upgraded passenger facilities and improved station infrastructure.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a nationwide initiative launched by the Indian Railways to modernise railway stations in a phased manner. The project focuses on improving basic amenities, enhancing accessibility, upgrading waiting areas, platforms and circulating areas, and integrating stations with local urban design elements. It also seeks to provide improved lighting, better signage, modern toilets and facilities for differently-abled passengers.

Railway authorities stated that the scheme is bringing significant transformation to railway infrastructure across the country. A total of 172 railway stations nationwide have been selected for redevelopment under the programme.

The redevelopment is expected to enhance passenger convenience, improve operational efficiency, and provide a more comfortable and accessible travel environment in the selected stations across the state.
