Kozhikode: Two more cases of amoebic meningoencephalitis have been confirmed at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode. A three-month-old infant and a young man, both of whom had been seeking treatment for fever, have tested positive for the rare infection. The patients have reportedly been under treatment for nearly three weeks.

The infant is a resident of Omassery, while the youth hails from Annassery. The diagnosis was confirmed following laboratory tests conducted at the medical college hospital. Health Department officials have collected water samples from both residences for further investigation.

Just days ago, a Class 4 student from Thamarassery died after contracting amoebic meningoencephalitis. In response, the Health Department has issued an alert in the region, advising the public to avoid entering any local water bodies, including the pond where the deceased child had undergone swimming training.
