Alphons Kannanthanam hides mother's death due to Covid and conducts funeral; Row erupts

Thiruvananthapuram: A serious allegation has been raised against Rajya Sabha MP and former union minister Alphons Kannanthanam for bringing his mother's dead body to Kerala for funeral without revealing she died of COVID-19 in Delhi. Social worker Jomon Puthenpurackal raised the allegation through a Facebook post.

The incident came to light after Alphons Kannanthanam revealed in a video that his mother died of COVID-19. With this, the controversy erupted.

Jomon Puthenpurackal made it clear that Alphons Kannanthanam's mother was living with him in Delhi and she died on June 10. Her body was brought to Kerala by flight and kept for public to pay homage at Manimala in Kottayam before the funeral. Jomon Puthenpurackal also came from Thiruvananthapuram and attended the ceremony.

Kannanthanam did not reveal that the cause of death was COVID-19 at that time, Jomon Puthenpurackal alleged through the Facebook post. Puthenpurackal was surprised to know that the body of a Covid person has been brought to Kerala from Delhi via flight and kept for public homage even when COVID protocol exists.
