Thiruvananthapuram: A woman passed away after getting unconscious shortly after receiving an injection at Taluk Hospital, Neyyattinkara. Krishna Thankappan, hailing from Neyyattinkara, succumbed while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

According to relatives, Krishna lost consciousness during an injection administered as part of her kidney stone treatment. Allegations of medical malpractice surfaced, leading to a police case against Dr Vinu based on the family's complaint. The incident was reported by Krishna's husband, Sarath.

Krishna initially sought treatment at Thaikkad Hospital and was later transferred to the surgical department of Neyyattinkara General Hospital after a kidney stone was detected during a scan. Admitted to Neyyattinkara Hospital on the morning of July 15, Krishna experienced distress following an injection at 11 am. There was also discolouration on her body.

Hospital authorities arranged for an ambulance and transferred Krishna, accompanied by relatives, to Medical College Hospital as her condition worsened. Sarath mentioned that Krishna was receiving treatment for asthma and was using an inhaler. Relatives alleged that Dr Vinu administered the injection without conducting an allergy test. Sarath has formally complained to the Chief Minister and Health Minister regarding the incident.
