Alappuzha is only district in Kerala not prone to landslides

Alappuzha is the only district in Kerala that is not prone to landslides,  according to the State Disaster Management Authority. 

While all other districts in the state are vulnerable to landslides, Alappuzha remains a safe haven.

A landslide atlas released by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) revealed that 4,20,000 square kilometers of the country are under threat of landslides, with 90,000 km located in the

Western Ghats-Konkan region. This region spans across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.

Among the 19 states in India where landslides occur, Kerala ranks sixth. The states of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Maharashtra are ahead of Kerala in terms of landslide risk. 

Although landslides are more common in northeastern states, the death rate is low compared to Kerala. This is because Kerala has a higher population density than these northern states.
