Keralites' love for jackpots never ends; now attracted to foreign lottery tickets too
Thrissur: Though over Rs 90 lakh lottery tickets are sold in Kerala, the people are attracted to the foreign jackpots now. Many are buying the Big Ticket lottery of Abu Dhabi which has a whopping prize of Rs 40 crore. This can be purchased via online. The ticket that offers a few prizes worth huge amount is priced Rs 10,000.
Some people also depend on their family and friends abroad to purchase the ticket. Four out of seven prizes of a ticket drawn on January 3 were won by Keralites. This is an evidence for the Keralites preferring Gulf lotteries. However, Abu Dhabi has not revealed the details of the ticket sales.
When ticket is purchased via friends in Gulf countries, the entire prize amount can be earned. If the ticket is bought via online, the amount is credited to bank account and the tax amount will be cut from this. About 30 percent of the amount will be taken as tax. The expensive Big Tickets are purchased by a group of people with 10-20 members.
Big Ticket draw is held on 3rd day of every month. Meanwhile, the people have started losing interest in Bhagyamithra Bumper lottery initiated by the Kerala government recently. It offers Rs 1 crore to five winners as first prize. A total of 44,83,300 tickets were sold in the first phase and 31,82,000 tickets will be sold in the second phase.
But people prefers tickets that has prize worth huge amount. All 44,10,000 tickets of Onam Bumper lottery that has first prize of Rs 12 crore were sold out. Pooja Bumper with Rs 5 crore as first prize also was fully sold out when 30 lakh tickets were printed. All 17 lakh tickets of Christmas Bumper that has Rs 12 crore as first prize was sold so far. Its draw will take place on January 17.
