A year on, crucial evidence in Elanthoor human sacrifice case still missing

Pathanamthitta: It has been one year since the Elanthoor human sacrifice case has caused a profound impact on the collective consciousness of the public in Kerala. However, the investigating team is yet to locate the whereabouts of one of the crucial evidence in the case-- a mobile phone belonging to one of the victims.

The case involves the torture and murder of two women --Rosyln (49) and Padma (50)-- as part of human sacrifice rituals in Elanthoor village in Pathanamthitta district.

Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Muhammad Shafi (53), a Perumbavoor native, couple Bhagawal Singh (71) and his wife Laila (67) from Pathanamthitta. Despite the accused providing the location of where they disposed of Padma's phone near their home, the police couldn't locate it.

Bhagawal Singh stated that he threw the phone in a canal near his house in Elanthoor. The cops cleaned up the vegetation and garbage in the canal and searched the area for two hours to find the phone.

However, despite not finding the phone, the investigation team is confident that call details collected by Cyber Cell could still be a crucial evidence in the case.

Meanwhile, the police have filed a 1600-page charge sheet in the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate Court in connection to the murder of Padma, a Tamil Nadu native and a lottery seller. The accused are facing charges of murder, rape, conspiracy, kidnapping, destroying evidence, theft and disrespect to a dead body.

However, the police have yet to file the charge sheet in connection to the murder of  Rosyln, a native of Vadakancherry, who was running a lottery business in Kalady. The accused are still in Kakkanad Jail. The court also rejected Laila's bail plea.
