8-member expert medical team to probe into Nayana Surya’s death, submit report on April 18

Thiruvananthapuram: An eight-member expert medical team will probe the mysterious death of film director Nayana Surya (28). The team, formed under the supervision of Dr Sreedevi, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, will submit its report on April 18.

As per reports, the Crime Branch (CB), which had been investigating the case, handed over all the evidence and documents to the expert team. These will be re-examined by the expert team, comprising doctors, and a final report will be submitted in this regard. 

Furthermore, the CB will also hand over all the probe findings, post-mortem report, photos, statements of Dr Sasikala, the then forensic surgeon who conducted the autopsy, Nayana’s relatives and friends, to the expert team. 

The inspection is being carried out over the indication in the post-mortem report that Nayana Surya died from a constriction force on the neck. The case, which was transferred to the CB on January 6, is now moving into the final phase after three months.  

Ambiguity over whether the room, in which Nayana Surya was found dead, had been locked from inside befuddled investigating officials. Reportedly, the forensic team will clarify the matter with photographs and the physics department of the forensic lab.

Nayana Surya, former assistant director of Lenin Rajendran, was found dead in her rented house at Althara Nagar in Thiruvananthapuram on February 24, 2019.

The initial conclusion was that she had killed herself due to depression as she underwent treatment. Police had then said that she fainted due to sugar variation and later succumbed as she did not get help on time.

However, the post-mortem report indicated that she was strangled to death, and suffered internal bleeding in her pancreas, kidneys due to a blow on the abdomen.
