7 Malayali pilgrims injured in car-truck accident in Karnataka’s Udupi

Mangaluru: Seven people were injured in an accident involving a car and a truck in Kundapura, Karnataka, on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:00 pm when a group of Malayali pilgrims from Payyannur were on their way to visit the Mookambika temple and other nearby places.

Four among the injured victims were immediately rushed to Manipal Hospital, where three women are currently in the ICU. The only man among the four has overcome the critical stage. Three others including the driver were admitted to a private hospital in Kundapura.

Details of the accident

The collision occurred near the Sri Chandika Durgaparameshwari Temple on National Highway 66, close to Kumbashi village. The car was reversing from the highway to turn towards the temple when it was struck by a fish lorry coming from behind. The truck, registered in Mangaluru, collided with the vehicle. The group had left Payyannur for their pilgrimage on Tuesday.
