For the past 45 years, people of Kalanjoor remembers just one name when they think of bicycles, ‘Najeeb cycles’. Najimudheen, who runs the shop, was keen about cycles from a very young age. His life with cycles started after reaching Kalanjoor in 1974 along with his father.

Understanding his son’s love for cycles, Thangalkunju sent Najimudheen to work at the cycle repair shop owned by Pappumestri. He started working there after finishing fifth standard.

With the increase in petrol price and lifestyle diseases, the demand for cycles is increasing, said Najimudheen. The cycle industry is on the path of revival, he added.

He said that his life with cycles for the past 45 years has been the reason for his achievements. He also credited his success to wife Ramlath and three children.

Talking about the cycle industry, he said that Hercules and Hero have been the heroes of the market for the past 45 years. When he started out, the main income was from renting cycles to people.

People used to pre-book the cycles with Rs 0.50 or Re 1. He had as many as 20 cycles for rental purposes.
