Shoranur (Palakkad): Approximately 200 guests, including the bride and groom, fell ill with symptoms of fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea after attending the wedding ceremony of a young man from Kulappully and a young woman from Pirayiri on Sunday night.

Guests from various regions, including Kozhikode, Palakkad, Ernakulam, and Thrissur, attended the event. Currently, nine children are receiving medical attention at Kozhikode Hospital, while the newlyweds and their relatives are also undergoing treatment.

The symptoms, including fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea, began among those who dined at the ceremony from Sunday night onward. Initially, many attributed their illness to the rainy season, but subsequent medical examinations conducted by doctors at a private hospital confirmed it as food poisoning.

Over 40 individuals sought medical assistance. The Shoranur Municipal Health Department and Ongallur Grama Panchayat Health Department conducted inspections at the catering establishment located in Vadanamkurussi, which prepared the food. During the inspection, it was discovered that the establishment was operating under unsanitary conditions. The source of the food poisoning is suspected to be contaminated drinking water or ice.
