Thrissur: The carcass of a wild jumbo, with a chipped tusk, was found at a plot in Vazhakode, near Mullurkara here. The forest officials recovered the carcass aged more than 2 months from the plot of Vazhakode native Roy, who is reportedly on the run.

Only bones of the carcass were seen, said reports. One of the tusks is in chipped condition. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) noted that the poaching angle will be probed. The forest officials will look into the illegal ivory trade angle too.

The forest officials intervened after intelligence inputs were received from sources. The carcass was buried in the rubber plantation that lies behind Roy’s house. An excavator was deployed to search the place.
