15-year-old boy electrocuted by wild boar trap in Nilambur

Nilambur: A 15-year-old boy was electrocuted after coming into contact with an electric trap set up for wild boars near Vazhikkadavu, close to Nilambur in Malappuram district. The deceased has been identified as Ananthu, a Class 10 student.
The incident occurred while Ananthu and four of his relatives had gone fishing. Two others, Shanu and Yadhu, who were accompanying him, sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.
Following the tragic event, UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath and LDF candidate M. Swaraj—both contesting in the Nilambur by-election—visited the hospital to meet the injured. Senior leaders from both the Congress and CPM also arrived at the hospital to express their condolences.
Aryadan Shoukath alleged that the incident amounted to "government-sponsored murder," claiming that such electric traps are being set up with the knowledge and consent of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). Meanwhile, M. Swaraj stated that it must be investigated whether unauthorised fencing was involved and called for a thorough inquiry into the matter.
The authorities are currently looking into the circumstances that lead to the boy’s death.
