Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that Singapore authorities have sent the post-mortem and toxicology reports of singer Zubeen Garg to the state police. He stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing Garg's death has made significant progress and is on track to submit the chargesheet within the stipulated 90-day period by December 17.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said the SIT’s visit to Singapore had ensured cooperation, resulting in the receipt of key reports under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT). The 52-year-old singer-composer died while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19.

The SIT, consisting of 10 members, has so far arrested seven individuals who remain in judicial custody. Sarma, who also holds the home minister portfolio, expressed confidence in the SIT delivering justice for Zubeen Garg.

He further emphasised that while the state government is fully committed to investigating Garg’s death, it will not allow focus to shift away from other pressing issues in Assam. Sarma criticised the Congress party, alleging they want Assam to be part of Bangladesh, citing incidents like the singing of Bangladesh’s national anthem at a Congress Seva Dal meeting in Sribhumi district.

He highlighted that the government considers issues like 'Love jihad' and encroachment as priorities alongside the Garg case.
