Zubeen Garg death: Five accused remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody

Guwahati: The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Guwahati on Wednesday remanded five of the accused in the Zubeen Garg death case to 14 days’ judicial custody, as the high-profile investigation continues to unfold.
Those remanded include Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Sandipan Garg, Nandeswar Bora, and Paresh Baishya, who were arrested by the Assam Police following the sudden death of the iconic Assamese singer on September 19 in Singapore.
Two other accused, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, remain in police custody, which is due to expire on October 17.
Earlier in the day, all five individuals were produced before the court by the Assam Police. Speaking to ANI, SIT chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta said, "We had arrested seven people, and the police custody of five persons has been completed, so we are producing them before the court today. The custody of the remaining two will be over the day after tomorrow."
He also confirmed that two witnesses were present at the CID office to give their statements.
"One more is likely to come today. That takes the total to 10 people who have appeared before the CID. Yesterday, we received a communication requesting that we provide the names of officers who will be visiting Singapore for an investigation, which is a standard process. We are waiting for their response..."
When asked about further custody, Gupta added, "We are not seeking further remand; if future remand is required on new facts, we will ask for it."
In a previous statement, Gupta had revealed that three NRIs had flown in from Singapore and recorded their statements before the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is now preparing to submit the post-mortem report to the court.
Singer Zubeen Garg tragically passed away in Singapore on 19 September, allegedly while swimming — just a day before he was due to perform at the Northeast India Festival. However, the case took a dramatic turn after Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, a member of Zubeen’s band and one of the arrested accused, alleged that the singer had been poisoned, suggesting foul play behind his death.
The investigation, led by the SIT of Assam CID, remains ongoing, with authorities also expected to liaise with Singaporean officials as part of the cross-border inquiry.
