Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powers new Xiaomi 17 lineup; Global launch in early 2026

Xiaomi has officially launched its latest flagship lineup, the Xiaomi 17 Series, in China, marking a major upgrade in design, performance, and user experience. The series includes three models: Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, all powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and running on Android 16-based HyperOS 3.
Display and Design
- The base Xiaomi 17 features a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 3,500 nits peak brightness, offering vibrant visuals and smooth interaction.
- Both the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max come with the same main display, but add an innovative secondary 2.7-inch rear display that runs around two rear cameras. This secondary screen supports notifications, media controls, selfies, and even gaming with a compatible case.
- The Pro Max also boasts a larger 6.9-inch 2K AMOLED screen with industry-leading brightness and clarity.
Camera Capabilities
Each model carries a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup, comprising three 50MP sensors—a primary wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lens. The Pro Max includes a 5x optical zoom telephoto lens, enhancing photography versatility. The front-facing camera on all phones is a 50MP sensor tailored for high-quality selfies and video.
Performance and Battery
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Series packs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, up to 16GB RAM, and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage, supporting intensive multitasking and gaming. Battery capacities vary, with the Xiaomi 17 equipped with 7,000mAh, the 17 Pro with 6,300mAh, and the Pro Max with a massive 7,500mAh battery. All models support 100W wired fast charging, with the Pro models also offering 50W wireless charging.
Pricing and Availability
- Xiaomi 17 starts at approx. ₹56,000 for the 12GB + 256GB variant.
- Xiaomi 17 Pro begins at approx. ₹62,300.
- The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max starts at approx. ₹74,700, with higher storage options priced up to around ₹87,100.
The phones are available for preorder in China and are expected to launch globally, including India, in early 2026.
