Gurugram: Police on Thursday announced the arrest of two men for allegedly shooting a 25-year-old woman inside a local club after she repeatedly rejected a marriage proposal from one of the suspects.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Dec. 20 at a venue on MG Road. Authorities were alerted to the violence after the victim was admitted to a private hospital with gunshot wounds. While she was initially in critical condition and unable to provide a formal statement, her husband filed a complaint naming the primary suspect.

According to the husband, a resident of Najafgarh in Delhi, his wife, Kalpana, called him around 1:00 a.m. on the night of the shooting to report that she had been attacked. He informed investigators that the suspect, identified as Tushar, a resident of Sangam Vihar, had been pressuring the woman to marry him for several months. The victim, who is already married, had consistently turned down his advances. The husband also noted that Tushar had previously visited their home about a month prior, where a confrontation took place.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Sector 29 police station. A specialised crime unit subsequently tracked and apprehended Tushar, also known as Jonty, and his accomplice, Shubham, also known as Jony, in Baraut, Uttar Pradesh.

During police interrogation, Tushar reportedly confessed that he had befriended the victim six months ago and developed an obsession with marrying her. On the night of Dec. 19, he and Shubham allegedly entered the club and confronted her once more. When she again refused his proposal, Tushar allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot her.

Both suspects remain in custody as police continue their investigation into the motive and the source of the weapon used in the assault.
